Earl's Regency Hotel

We spent two nights at Earl's Regency Hotel while touring the attractions Kandy, Sri Lanka's cultural capital has to offer.  It is one of the best accommodation options in the area surrounding Kandy.
  Staff Service
Service throughout Earl's Regency was of a very good standard in all respects.  Check in was handled smoothly while we were sitting at the lobby having a sweet welcome drink and cooling off with a wet towel.  Our luggage was moved promptly between our vehicle and room and everybody in the hotel was extremely polite.
  Hotel Location and Ambiance

As with all the hotels we chose in Sri Lanka, the Earl's Regency hotel in Kandy is not in the center of things.  The five star hotel is located four kilometers to the East and uphill from Kandy.  Trading off a 10 minute drive for tranquility wins us over every time and unless you want to be in and out of the hotel all the time Earl's Regency hotel is a great choice.
The hotel is surrounded by greenery and its gardens are both beautiful and well maintained.  Bird watching can be done from the comfort of your room's balcony.  Interestingly the hotel is build on what appears to be black rock and you can see rock veins in a few places incorporates into the hotel structure.
  Room
As our room was located in the more interesting architecturally new wing of the hotel, it always took us a short
while to walk to and from the lobby or the main restaurant.  Despite the hotel having a lot of guests the hotel was quiet and nothing bothered our sleep.
Furnishings were good and a hardwood floor made our accommodation look stylish.  All room areas were clean and size even with all four of us inside was adequate.  From our balcony we had an absolutely great view of the hotel grounds including the pool and the surrounding forest.  The colorful birds of the area made us sit there and admire them for quite a bit of time.
The bathroom was also well sized sporting both a tropical shower cubicle and a bath tub.  Unfortunately whoever fitted the shower glass door did an awful job and water would flood out during each use.  Black ceramic tiles also gave the bathroom a slightly odd and dated look.
  Food and Beverage
Breakfast was very similar to what all five star hotels in Sri Lanka we stayed at offer.  The morning buffet was plentiful and included cereals, fresh fruits, breads and cakes as well as omelets and waffles made to order.  A selection of carries was also available together with what was fast becoming our favorite; rice flour hoppers.
We sampled the night buffet at the main restaurant finding the food there OK but nothing to right home about.  Of note were the live cooking stations which offered some interesting options.  Service was very good every time we used the restaurant with our drinks arriving in good time.
  Facilities and Entertainment
Earl's Regency hotel has most of the facilities you would expect from a five star hotel including a gym and a spa.  The swimming pool area is beautiful, kept clean and with plenty of sun beds.  Unfortunately the depth of the swimming pool is not such that parents can relax by leaving their young children play there.  The small children's pool is a bit of a joke as far as size is concerned.  An outdoor playground for children is available and not a bad place to spend some time in.  WiFi is available at a charge.
  Our opinion
A comfortable room in serene and beautiful area.  Would stay there again.
